Lead Pipe Replacement – Upgrade your water mains with our expert service

If your house was built before 1970 in Kent, UK, there’s a chance that the water pipes installed in your house might be made of lead. These pipes were used to connect the water supply to your taps. Lead pipes can be harmful to health, so it’s highly advisable to get them replaced with newer pipes to avoid any potential health risks.

We can replace your old lead water pipes with new ones to improve your home’s water pressure and flow. Unlike traditional pipe replacement methods, which require digging a trench through your property, we use a trenchless technology called Moling. This allows us to replace your lead pipes safely without digging up your garden, driveway, or patio.

Lead Pipe Replacement

Instead, we use a special machine to bore through the soil and create a smooth channel for the new pipes. We only need to dig two small pits at the beginning and end of the channel. Once the channel is ready, we pull the new pipes through it. This method is faster, less disruptive, and more cost-effective than traditional pipe replacement methods.

What’s included in the Lead Pipe Replacement service?

Our lead water pipe replacement service covers the pipes from the stop tap at the boundary of your property to the connection inside your house. We do everything from the initial survey to completing the job and reinstating your water supply. We can also liaise with your water provider to help replace any lead pipes that run from the boundary of your property to the water main.

Your new pipes will be less prone to splits and cracks and are guaranteed for 10 years.

How can I tell if my water pipes are made of lead?

It’s important to make sure your home’s water supply is safe. You can check if your water pipes are made of lead or not by looking at the incoming pipe under the sink. If it’s not blue plastic, scratch the surface with a knife. If you see shiny metal, it might be lead which is not safe.

If you don’t see shiny metal, your incoming pipe might be safer, made of iron or black polyethene. Over time, black polyethene can become brittle and might need to be replaced.

What are the advantages of replacing pipes that contain lead with lead-free pipes?

If you’re a homeowner, you might want to consider upgrading to lead-free pipes. Lead can seep into the water from old pipes and cause serious health problems. By choosing lead-free pipes, you can decrease the risk of exposure to harmful chemicals and contaminants.

Not only that, but lead-free pipes are also more durable and resistant to damage, which means that your plumbing system will last longer, and you’ll save money on repairs in the future. Overall, upgrading to lead-free pipes is a wise choice that can help keep you and your family healthy and happy.

Why Replace Your Lead Water Pipes?

  • Health Protection: Lead is a harmful metal that can cause health problems, especially in pregnant women and young children. Replacing lead pipes can reduce the chance of getting sick from lead exposure and help us stay healthy.
  • Improved Water Quality: Old lead pipes can harm the quality and safety of your drinking water. It is best to replace them with newer materials so you and your family can have access to clean and safe drinking water. If you have lead pipes, there may be traces of lead in your drinking water, especially if you’re in a part of Kent with soft water.
  • Enhanced Water Pressure and Flow: If you live in an area with hard water, the minerals in the water can build up inside your pipes and cause low water pressure. This is especially a problem if your house has old lead pipes because they can become clogged with these minerals and reduce the amount of water that comes out. In addition to reducing the water pressure, these old pipes can also allow lead to dissolve into your drinking water, which is not safe. If you want to improve the water pressure and make sure your water is safe to drink, it’s recommended that you replace your old lead pipes with modern ones.
  • Prevent Property Damage: By using modern materials to replace lead pipes, we can significantly lower the risk of expensive property damage that can be caused by water leaks. This means you can have peace of mind knowing that your home is safer from potential water damage.
  • Environmental Protection: By replacing lead pipes with safer alternatives, we can help reduce the amount of harmful chemicals that get released into our soil and water sources. This is important because it helps protect our environment and keeps our water clean and safe to drink.

Why have I got low water pressure?

Over time, old pipes that carry water can become narrow and clogged with limescale buildup. This is more common in areas where the water is hard. When this happens, it can reduce the pressure and flow of water inside your pipes, which can cause issues with your plumbing system.

Old lead water pipes and fittings may leak, so it’s important to replace them urgently.

Patrick & son replaced my old lead supply pipe for me - they were brilliant. Clear communication, showed up on time, worked efficiently, left everything neat + tidy, and sorted the certification with the water supplier. Very glad I chose them for the job.

Got their name off the South East Water site, I rang to ask about my external water leak which was in my neighbour's garden but my supply. Patrick was extremely helpful and requested pictures via WhatsApp, once sent he responded immediately, we arranged a time for him to come and have a look and he gave me his thoughts on the issue. We agreed a way forward with my neighbour, turned into a bigger job than originally thought, but it was resolved the same day and neighbour's garden was returned all the earth to near the original state. Turned up when they said they would. Excellent job, well worth the money. Stress free for me, could leave Patrick and his colleague to get on with the work as they clearly know what they are doing. Will call them again if I have any other issues. Thanks

Amazing and trustworthy service. I had wanted a second opinion with a drain problem and I was so pleased that I had consulted Moling Services. They used the camera to get a clear picture which was well explained and documented. They put my mind at rest.

The anxiety of a "botched" job was allayed by Patrick and Alfie. In November, a trader claimed to have repaired my leak but Thames Water advised it had actually gotten worse and offered a list of approved water engineers. Patrick answered my call, on a weekend and after dialogue and sharing of pictures he was able to partially deduce what may be required. He managed to fit me in for a pre-Christmas visit, then on arriving evaluated the problem, offered lots of handy expert advice and tips and fixed the leak in one day. Having checked with Thames Water, it appears there is now no leak. Outcome . . . . one very happy customer and problem quickly resolved before Christmas too (first detected by Thames Water in June).

Although unable to complete the job as required Patrick explained the reason and spent a long time on the phone on our behalf with the supplier explaining what the problem was and what the supplier needed to do to rectify the water leak we have. Was helpful on the phone in the booking process , arrived on time, explained how the work would go. We would not hesitate to use him again .
